Default How to bring life back to old chapters and keep Anet happy.

So lets get straight to the point, one of the reasons why we dont get updates on old chapters besides bug fixes is that it cost Anet money to produce new stuff for old chapters and we arent paying for it.So basicly they would lose money.

How about this idea.
Add bonuses for old chapters in new chapters.
So Chapter 4 will have a bonus town a bonus explorable area ( like Sorrows Furnace) bonus quests/missions for Phrophecies.

This will be just like heroes are at the moment you get them only in nightfall but you can use them anywhere, so you get this bonus in chapter 4 but you get to it in chapter 1.

This way we get new stuff in old chapters, which means people will go the the new stuff in the old chapter and Anet also gets paid for their work since we bought the new chapter.( Which has its great map and story in its own world)

If the new town/explorable area and whatever else is made interesting enough people will go to it.

This also helps to promote people to buy other chapters even more.

If you only have phrophecies and love the whole map, but been everywhere and done everything.
But dont want to buy the new chapter cause you dont like the map and whatever else it has, this can push you just enough to still get the chapter.
( i know your not gonna spend 50 bucks just for a new town, but it might help to push you to do it for the chapter)

People that buy the new chapter and only have the new chapter might consider buying the older chapter to find out what the bonus they have is.
This might push them to buy the old chapter, which equals more $$ for Anet .

The only problem i can see with this is people that buy the new chapter will whine that they can access something they payed for.

We happy Anet happy

That's actually kind of a cool idea. I'd certainly love to see some new stuff in Tyria and Factions and would cheerfully outlay some money for it. If I get a new continent along with it then heck, who am I to argue?

Edit: Also /signed for the multicontinent quest idea right below this post.

I hope they do quests that span several continents at some point in the future, for us quest addicts who have more than one game.
It's immersive and quite fun to travel all over the world for a quest.

I would pay around $10 for added areas to PvE in the old chapters. They would have to be better/bigger than Sorrows Furnace for me to pay money for, but if they are it would be worth it.

I think this would add an aspect of unfairness to the game. What if you dont own the next campaign and dont get/have access to the bonus material for Tyria or cantha or Elona?

If this material isnt downloadable from the servers, how can those who dont own the campaign join you in those missions or quests?

I think all material for one campaign should be available to those who own it. But since Anet wont update old campaigns, I doubt it will happen.

freekedoutfish, it's kinda similar to the heroes in Factions and Prophecies. Except it's just quests for fun and not getting something like a hero out of it.
I think it'd be neat.

Oh, they have one already! I didn't even know. I wonder if there are many others?

I also love this idea. I'd gladly pay $10-$20 for a major update to an existing chapter. This could also take a little heat off of Anet having to come up with a new chapter every six months. Maybe something like a major update at month 6 and a new chapter at month 12, major update at month 18, new chapter at month 24, and so on. You get the idea.

EDIT: I like Lyra's idea below too. Sort of like what I've mentioned here. ^^

I think i would much rather have REAL expansions.

Guild Wars: Bloodstone Rise expansion pack.

Prophecies edition, Factions edition, Nightfall Edition.

New content per chapter as a precursor to a new storyline.

I remember that quest and I remember thinking it was cool being teleported to the crystal desert.

But thats the only one and It only really worked due to the obvious connections between nightfall and prophercies and how their on the same continent.

If they were to do that again, it would have to have some interconnecting storyline.

As for adding new quests. I know I said originally I would see it as unfair, but if these were quests and missions you did AFTER you completed the main storyline and you could only access from a set location and it was set inside a previously unused section of the map, then I dont see a reason not.

PS. It wouldnt count towards grandmaster master cartog since not everyone could access them.

I certanly would love this idea.

Theres one thing, they would have to take time away from making the chapters in order to make expansions, but then again depending on how much it would be sold they could just get a team to work on expansions.

A whole underground world that can connect to each campaign in places if you have the game to unlock the door up to the surface.
Call it Ascalons' Uber Catacombs.
Whatever happened to those there Catacombs since Post Searing.
Yeah, they'd go to Cantha! Super Catacombs!

While I definitely like the ideas presented here it seems simpler just to include bonus content in the chapter that it is attached to. Things like the elite missions in Factions and Nightfall are pretty much "bonus" if you ask me, not needed for the story and providing end-game activities for PvE.

I think so long as copies of the latest chapter still sell well, which seems to be the case so far, that this isn't needed. For those new to GW, interest in the new chapter leads naturally to buying the previous content to some degree.

We have new guildies in recent months that are starting with either Prophecies or Nightfall and I'm seeing that pattern of expanding to the other chapters as they become hooked. Likewise those who have started in Factions and beat it a number of times are expanding to the other chapters. Of course others have dropped off the face of Tyria, still in the guild but gone for months so assumably have dropped GW for whatever reason (real life situation, WoW, college, whatever).

The idea is that players that have been playing for long time and have gotten bored with phrophecies are now in nightfall, meaning phrophecies map is empty, this is to make people that have left phrophecies because there is nothing to do anymore go back and enjoy the new content, which in turns means phrophecies isnt empty.

while new content is a possibility, it is more likely that access to older chapters (minus additional character slots) will be 'given free' with future releases, possibly starting with chapter 4.

Kills two birds with one stone - introduces new players to the 'dead' areas and raises revenue as new players purchase additional character slots.

New content would be a bonus to encourage older players to revisit and further repopulate the old campaign areas.
